Duke Forward

Join the Board of Visitors

The Pratt Board of Visitors is a group of approximately 60 people who have an interest in Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering, and are willing to dedicate a significant amount of time to the school. Members return to campus for about five days each year to attend BoV meetings, but also spend time between meetings doing committee work and attending Duke events.

The board’s mission is to provide strategic guidance to the Dean and the school, and the group is well suited to this task. Each member of the Board of Visitors has been quite successful in his/her chosen field. Board membership includes CEOs of companies both large and small, managing directors of private equity and venture capital firms, and partners, VPs and directors from industry, medical practices, financial firms, and departments of the government. Board members come to duke from cities around the country and the world, including Alaska, NYC, Silicon Valley, London and Hong Kong. And the board membership is diverse across “generations.” Currently, the board includes members from the class of 2002 as well as from the class of 1952.

Board of Visitors members have been quite generous to Duke with their time, money, advice, and sometimes jobs. Members are truly interested in helping Pratt, and Pratt students, succeed. The board adapts its organization to the changing needs of the school and serves as a sounding board for new educational and research directions. Sub-committees align with both Duke and Pratt goal, to best address the most current issues facing the school. The board discussions are stimulating, and the dedication to the school is remarkable.
