The Pratt EMU (Engineering Made Understandable) Awards are a fun way to motivate Duke engineers to communicate the excitement of their field to others. The Gala Awards Evening is the social event of the spring semester! The ability to communicate complicated technical information in a way that is engaging, persuasive and effective is one of the most important life skills any student can develop. This contest is one way that Pratt is 'living our values' to help train students to be leaders of positive change in their lives and careers after Duke.
The Envisioning the Invisible Contest is designed to encourage the exploration of science and research through images. Every field of study values students who have mastered the art of explaining dense research through visuals such as pictures and images. Images can stimulate interest in a novel concept or provide further insight into an established theory. The contest is also an annual memorial to Abhijit Mahato, a former graduate student at the Pratt School of Engineering.
The Pratt E-lympics is an annual "sports" competition pitting teams of graduate students, faculty and staff from Pratt's departments, centers, and dean's office against each other. The day's festivities culminate in a barbecue and awards ceremony.
