Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering offers Bachelor of Science degrees in four major engineering disciplines. While each engineering major offers options for specialized study, the basic engineering degree requirements are the same for all majors.
In addition, more than 27% of Duke engineering students study abroad. We feel such experiences help prepare our students to assume leadership roles in an increasingly global, technology focused society. We have structured a study abroad course plan for each of our B.S. degree programs.

4 + 1 Program - Stay Another Year for a Master of Science Degree
Many students and employers recognize the value of an in depth experience in an engineering discipline or management to complement a broad undergraduate engineering education. Students interested in obtaining a Master of Science or Master of Engineering Management degree may want to pursue one of our 4 + 1 BSE/MS programs. Students can begin earning graduate credit during the spring semester of their senior year.

Double Majors and Minors
At Duke, engineering students can combine engineering and non-engineering disciplines to double major. All course requirements for both majors must be satisfied. Among the most common non-engineering second majors are public policy studies, economics, mathematics, physics, history and religion.
Most of the departments in Trinity College of Arts and Sciences have established minors and engineering students are eligible to enroll in them. The courses required for minors are specified by the department/academic program. A minimum of five courses is required, including at least three above the introductory level.
Certificates
Pratt and Duke offer several undergraduate certificate programs that enable students to pursue more depth in a particular area of interest.
- Architectural Engineering Certificate
Architectural Engineering is the discipline concerned with the planning, design, construction, and operation of engineered systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. All civil engineering undergraduates are eligible to participate in the program and quality for certification. - Aerospace Engineering Certificate - Aerospace engineering is the discipline concerned with the conceptualization, design, analysis and performance of aerospace systems for commercial, military, and recreational applications. The Aerospace Certificate Program at Duke offers a rigorous and in depth exposure to scientific and engineering fundamentals in the broad set of core disciplines required in the aerospace field.
- Energy and the Environment Certificate - The Certificate in Energy and the Environment is designed to provide Duke undergraduates with an understanding of the breadth of issues that confront our society in its need for clean, affordable and reliable energy. An expertise in energy will expand career options in the private, non-profit, government and academic sectors. The goal of the Certificate is to develop innovative thinkers and leaders who understand the energy system as a whole and the important interconnections among policy, markets, technology and the environment.
- Information Sciences and Information Studies Certificate
The Information Science and Information Studies (ISIS) certificate program offers students an interdisciplinary approach to study the nature of information and its impact on art, culture, science, commerce, society, and the environment. - International Honors Program
The International Honors Program in Engineering is a certificate program consisting of six to eight semester courses, depending on the foreign language level proficiency of the student. - Markets and Management Studies Certificate
This certificate program is designed for students who wish to complement their major program of study with courses that prepare them for careers in business and management, banking, consulting, government, the non-profit sector, and related graduate fields.
