E-lympics

Welcome to the Duke Engineering Annual E-lympics!

This summer Engineering teams will meet in a battle of wills, strength and determination.  There will be many winners, but only one champion! 

Who: Pratt faculty, staff, and graduate students

Where: Pratt Plaza (E-Quad)

When: Friday, August 5, 2011

  • 8:15 am – Check-in Begins

  • 11:30-1:30 – FCIEMAS Atrium Picnic

THE GAMES

All competitive matches will take place on the large green field in Pratt Plaza.  We've brought back some old favorites, revamped some others and introduced a whole new game.  Details will be sent to competitors after registration begins, but to summarize:

Bean Bag Toss – new and improved! teams will compete in timed battles for the highest points to proceed through to the final round.

Fitness Mania – team members will take turns drawing activity cards and number cards and will have to perform that activity as many times as is indicated by the number drawn, first team to complete their stack wins.

Leaning Tower of Cheeza – teams will compete against each other to build a tower using only Cheez Whiz and crackers.

Fireman's Pass  – new this year! teams players will toss-pass water balloons to each other from one bucket to another in a timed match to see who can fill their bucket best.

Puzzle Challenge – new and improved! á la Survivor, each team member will be required to complete a puzzle in order to win a piece of the final puzzle challenge.

Relay Race – back again! the four legs of the race will include 3-Legged, Big Foot, Hoppy Ball, and Sack laps.

THE TEAMS

Only Pratt faculty, staff, and graduate students are eligible for team membership on one of six teams.

  • BME (blue)
  • CEE (green)
  • ECE (red)
  • MEMS (yellow)
  • DOMEM (orange – Dean’s Office/MEMP/MEng)
  • INTERS (purple – Institute/Centers [CBIMMS, CEINT, CMIP, FIP, SMIF, etc.])

Each person on the team is required to participate in at least one of the six events. Team competitors can compete for only one team!  Each team will need a minimum of 8 players (maximum is 44).

THE PRIZES

Individual Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the first, second, and third place competitors in each of the six events.

Points for placement will be tracked and tallied to determine the overall winning department who will claim department glory and receive the E-lympic trophy, complete with bragging rights and an engraved nameplate, for the next year.

THE PICNIC

The picnic in the Atrium is open to all Pratt faculty, staff, and graduate students, but you MUST REGISTER to attend.

In the spirit of managing our fiscal resources, picnic tickets will be issued to those who register so that we can plan food accordingly…there is no cost to you, just a few minutes to fill out the registration form.

If you are a competitor, you need only show your team wristband to attend.
