Friendly Competition Makes Annual Phonathon a Success

December 1, 2003

Seventy-five students donated three evenings to kick off this year's annual fund campaign with a successful phonathon. The student callers, made up of Pratt engineers and two Trinity students, secured 972 pledges for a total of $172,000 in funding for the school.

"I think this was one of our most successful phonathons in recent years," said Pam Hanson, Pratt's director of young alumni and events.

The phonathon is primarily a student organized fund-raising activity, coordinated by a committee. This year's committee members include Larissa West (co-chair), Christian Moyer (co-chair), Stephen Greenfield, Steven Gangstead, Andrew Galanopoulos, Michael Parsons (graduated last year; grad student now), and Jessica Smith.

The committee rounded up a full room of callers for each night of the phonathon. Callers competed to secure the highest number of pledges. After pledge totals were tallied, the top three callers for each night won $50, and an additional $100 was provided to the top overall caller, all courtesy of Judge Carr, senior associate dean for development and alumni affairs.

Top callers for Sept. 19:
Tianshi Wu (Pratt freshman)
Lee Pearson (Pratt freshman)
Noel Bakhtian (Pratt senior)

Top callers for Sept. 20:
Lee Pearson (2nd time) (Pratt freshman)
Kristen Boswell (Pratt junior)
Philip Wolfe (Pratt freshman)

Top callers for Sept. 26:
Kristen Boswell (2nd time) (Pratt junior)
Priscilla Hwang (Pratt freshman)
Lorne Bycoff (Trinity sophomore)

The overall top caller for the three nights was Lorne Bycoff (Trinity sophomore).

"This year's engineering phonathon event was truly remarkable! The fantastic efforts of Pam Hanson and Kim Davis, the phonathon committee and of course the Pratt students who participated were simply outstanding! In my 15 years I would rank this year's phonathon at the top!! Congratulations and thank you!" Carr said.

Each student who spent at least two nights calling received a custom made Pratt engineering jacket!

This year's Development goal for the annual fund is $1.93 million.
