The Pratt Engineering Undergraduate Fellows Program provides engineering undergraduates with an opportunity to do intensive research in their engineering major and receive course credit and the opportunity to do summer research. The school-wide competitive program includes faculty and students of the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. The program is under the direction of Martha Absher, Assistant Dean for Education and Outreach Programs for the Pratt School of Engineering.
Pratt Engineering Undergraduate Fellows work on research projects under the direction of faculty advisers. Course credit is given in the student's major, via linked independent studies for the three semester course sequence as follows:

Fellows are selected midway in their junior year. Selection criteria include research interests, academic record, intellectual ability, and maturity. Attention is given to the recruitment of underrepresented populations in engineering -- women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities. Fellows may use their Pratt Research Fellows research as the basis for a Senior Honors Thesis for graduation with distinction presented to an advisory and examining committee at the end of the Fellow's senior year. Achievements of Pratt Research Fellows have included numerous publications, presentations at national conferences, and even a patent. Typically, Pratt Undergraduate Fellows will graduate with distinction, and with many other university and engineering honors. Their career goals include graduate school in engineering, medical school, or MD/Ph.D. programs at prestigious universities. These outstanding students have performed exemplary research in the Pratt School of Engineering.
