CECT Undergraduate Fellows Program

The CECT Undergraduate Fellows Program provides engineering undergraduates with an opportunity to do intensive research in cardiovascular biomedical engineering in the Center for Emerging Cardiovascular Technologies (CECT).

The CECT is under the direction of Olaf von Ramm, Ph.D., Thomas Lord Professor of Biomedical Engineering and CECT Director, and was founded at Duke in 1987.

Academic credit is given through BME 193, 194, and 195, Projects in Cardiovascular Biomedical Engineering. CECT Fellows complete these three courses plus have the opportunity to do summer research. Fellows are selected midway in their junior year. They may use their CECT-sponsored research as the basis for graduation with distinction at the end of their senior year. CECT Undergraduate Fellows' achievements include publications, presentations at national conferences and patents.

In the many years of this program, the CECT's many Undergraduate Fellow alumni have gone on to distinguished careers in academia, industry and medicine.

The CECT Fellows Program is under the direction of Martha Absher, Assistant Dean for Education and Outreach Programs for the Pratt School of Engineering.
